He walks and He talks with Me

“He walks with me and He talks with Me and He tells me I am His own.”

These are lyrics of an old hymn my mother used to sing as she worked around the house, but I had no idea what the words meant, until I prayed under the fir trees on that fall day so long ago. Since that day, when I gave my life to God, I have a Constant Companion that never leaves me alone. And He never leaves me in a situation when I ask for help to change.

By the presence of the Holy Spirit within me and with the Bible to teach me, I am still learning what God’s desire for me as an individual, a wife, mother, grandmother and a minister of the gospel entails.

The changes needed in my life, to make me functional in all these areas, are overwhelming if I even contemplated trying to make them on my own.

I am so glad that the Bible teaches us that, “He who has begun a good work in you, will continue until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Now that’s a relief!

Psalm 28:7
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

When God walks and talks with us, Holy Spirit is faithful to do His job in pointing us to Jesus; and He points out our shortcomings to us. These are the things that need to be confronted and dealt with to make us all that we can be for His glory. And for us to be able to live in peace within ourselves and with our fellow man. The good news is He does not leave us to deal with these surfacing issues on our own. The changes are also His responsibility. What He wants from us is a willing and obedient heart.

We cannot have lasting change without His help

Jeremiah 24:6-7

6 For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.”

Just last week I was really angry and I could not get over it. It was an unreasonable response to an every day situation, and I was stuck there emotionally. I was at home alone, and doing chores. As I worked, I reached out to God and told Him I was willing to let go of my feelings, but not able to do it myself.

“Lord, I’m willing, but not able. Please help!” It was very simple but sincere prayer.

We walk together with Him and He knows each of our hearts better than we do. I made no excuses, He knew anyway, and within a minute or two I was over the anger that I had been struggling with for several hours. It was a good feeling to be free. I praised and thanked Him for setting me free. And wondered why I had waited so long to ask for His help.

Knowing God Through Love

We have a Friend that sticks closer to us than a brother, the Word of God says. Sometimes, we are so slow to take advantage of God’s promises. One verse that I really like is, John 10:10 in the Amplified Bible. It is Jesus talking and He says, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”

The thief is our enemy, the devil. So if there is destruction in your life it is not from God, Beloved. Our loving Savior does not keep or distribute anything contrary to love. He will not use sickness, despair or poverty to teach us something or keep us humble. By the beating (or stripes) that Jesus suffered, we are told that our healing was purchased at the cross for us. Isaiah 53:5

Psalm 27:13 says, “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” People of faith, should not despair. We have our hope centered and focused on Our Savior.

2 Corinthians 8:9
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”

2 Corinthians 9:8
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”

I have given you two scriptures for finances as it is an area where many have a struggle to believe that God wants us to have enough so there is some left over after our needs are met to give to every good work. Abundance Beloved! To the full. Till it overflows!

The word of God is clear on this subject and we would do well to believe it. Learn to give and it SHALL be given to you. Seek first His Kingdom and ALL these things SHALL be added to you. God loves each of us and wants us to prosper and be in health. Even as our souls prosper. God’s promises are real and practical, not just for when we die or meet Him when He returns and makes everything right.

God’s practical Love will help us change, make us whole and help us prosper. Our job is to believe that what He has said, He will do, and to obey what Holy Spirit brings to our consciousness that needs to be addressed.

If you feel impressed to stop some activity, STOP IT!

Or if you are led to do something, DO IT!

That is your part. The rest He will do in you.

I John 4:7-9

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.”

What shall I do to inherit eternal life?

When Jesus was asked, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” This is what He said.

Luke 10:26-28

26 He (Jesus) said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” 27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

The Golden Rule

As I child I was taught the golden rule. I don’t know by whom, or when, it was just always there.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Sounds easy, doesn’t it? As a child I would think about it but as I grew older I found it very difficult to do. What I wanted became more important than what I knew I should do.

The world told me that I should look out for number one… and I was number one! And I took that attitude for a lot of years and was the most miserable, crankiest and angry person. I sure didn’t like me by the time I was twenty. I was a suicide looking for a place to happen when Jesus showed up as the Good Samaritan and picked me up, bound up my wounds and healed me.

The more I let Him into my miserly, miserable heart, the more I changed. The only time I ever argued with God, was over the scripture that declares that no one knows what is in their heart. I thought I knew myself very well. Now all I have left to say is, Holy Spirit has spent the last 40 years peeling back the layers of my wicked heart one at a time.

There are times when just a glimpse of what lives in there is enough to give me that old sinking feeling, but I have learned to be quick to repent and acknowledge the grace that Jesus extended to me for every sin, past, present and future. He took it all to the cross. I am most grateful and joyful for my freedom.

Satan would like to have us wallow in self pity, despair or depression over our condition as we walk through the world. Don’t even think about going there! You are free and you couldn’t get free on your own. So having come to Jesus for salvation, don’t be deceived into thinking there is anything you can do to earn it now. John 3: 16 to 18 should set you free from that wrong thinking…

John 3:16-18

16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. 18 He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation--he incurs no damnation]; but he who does not believe (cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already [he has already been convicted and has already received his sentence] because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [He is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ's name.]

I love these verses! They are so freeing. We were already lost, but Jesus changed all that. All we have to do is believe, obey and receive!

I have had people tell me that it can’t be true because it is too easy. Yes, it’s true and yes, it is easy. God is inclusive, trying to get everyone into His Kingdom. He is Love and not looking to keep anyone out. He has provided a way to bring sinful man into the presence of Holy God and all we need to do is believe and receive it.

I am truly blessed to be the one who is able to give out this radically good news!

Jeremiah 29:12-13

12 Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. 13 Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

Ezekiel 11:19
And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh.

He is saying it is His job to change us. Just tell Him you will cooperate!

Ezekiel 3:10
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.

Ezekiel 36:25-27

25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. “This is what Jesus said for us to do. So let us do it and rejoice!

More Scriptures to meditate on

Hebrews 4:11-13

11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

1 Peter 1:21-23

21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Psalm 17:2-4

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.
